Biography

About Johnny Dollar

Working in acrylic and mixed media, Johnny Dollar creates Bitcoin art shaped by post-pop surrealism, cypherpunk culture, and a sustained interest in privacy, surveillance, technology, identity, and market behavior. His paintings often use familiar characters and cultural references to examine how people interact with technological and monetary systems.

Works such as "Peace Maker," "Crossbows and Cryptography," "Chaos and Consensus," "Bitcoin Bitcoin RARARA," and "The Madness of Crowds" bring Bitcoin into broader questions about power, consensus, technology, and collective behavior. "Chaos and Consensus," a 24 × 48 inch mixed-media painting on canvas, uses the balance between order and chaos to address network consensus and the role of individual nodes. "The Madness of Crowds" focuses on market psychology, including hype, greed, panic, and crowd behavior.

Johnny Dollar also incorporates his pseudonym directly into the physical making of the work. He signs paintings with his real name, covers that signature with masking tape, and then signs "Johnny Dollar" over it. He describes this as "masking tape encryption," using the removable layer as a metaphor for the limits of privacy in a technological world.
