BTC Monk

BTC Monk creates Bitcoin art through meticulously hand-finished physical works that combine monetary symbolism with labor-intensive craftsmanship and richly developed surfaces. Working primarily on plywood, he uses pyrography, layered charcoal lacquer, gilding, engraving, sanding, polishing, and resin. Gold leaf appears throughout his practice alongside abalone shell, varnish, lacquer, and wood, giving the work a tactile presence shaped by repeated stages of hand finishing.

His compositions place Bitcoin imagery within techniques associated with decorative craft and traditional gilding. "Faces of Bitcoin" combines pyrography on plywood with 23 carat gold leaf and a matte varnish finish. "Bitcoin Thinker" brings together five layers of black charcoal lacquer, 22 carat gold leaf, clear lacquer, sanding, polishing, and framing. Likewise, "Satoshi Dragon" uses a dark lacquered plywood ground and extensive gold-leaf gilding to create a highly finished physical surface.

The making process remains central to BTC Monk’s practice. For documented works, he has reported spending between 150 and 450 hours on a single piece, with much of that time devoted to layering, finishing, and surface detail. "Eyes on Prize" extends this approach through charcoal lacquer, 22 carat gold leaf, engraved linework, abalone shell inlay, and epoxy resin. Across his work, reflective metals, dark lacquered grounds, detailed engraving, and hand-applied finishes give Bitcoin imagery a distinctive physical and materially substantial presence.
