About MLO

Martin Lukas Ostachowski creates Bitcoin art across painting, paper, print, and sculpture. Based in Montreal, the German-Canadian artist works with geometric abstraction, minimalism, cloud imagery, and data. His practice includes acrylic painting, woven and hand-cut paper, laser cutting, pen plotting, archival printing, and sculptural fabrication.

Bitcoin entered his work in 2017 and has since become a recurring subject. In the 2024 series "In Plain Sight," Ostachowski uses four progressively halved geometric forms to reference Bitcoin’s four halvings, including the fourth at block height 840,000. The works are painted in acrylic on round wood panels, with cloud forms appearing as a recurring element in the compositions.

Other works connect Bitcoin with monetary history and network infrastructure. "PAC: A Century of Charted Devaluation" is an archival print on Arches paper that visualizes a century of declining dollar purchasing power. "PAC Nodes of Resilience" uses pen-plotted data across nine acid-free paper notebooks to chart the growth of the Bitcoin node network.

Across his practice, Ostachowski combines data, abstraction, and carefully constructed physical processes to translate technological and monetary systems into paintings, prints, paper works, and sculpture.
