Biography
About Flo Montoya
Flo Montoya creates Bitcoin art across drawing, painting, screen printing, metal engraving, and mixed media. The Chilean artist began focusing her work on Bitcoin in March 2020 and completed her first Bitcoin piece by block 624893. Her practice is grounded in traditional training, including three years at a classical art academy followed by university study in art.
Montoya chooses materials and techniques for both their visual qualities and their relationship to the subject. She has described three recurring considerations in her process: aesthetics, proof of work, and what she calls the meaning of the medium. In "Print Art Not Money," for example, metal engraving reinforces a work concerned with inflation and money printing by making the printing process itself part of the idea.
Her body of work includes hand-drawn pieces such as "Bitcoin Is Justice," original screen prints, paintings, engravings, and collaborative mixed-media works including "Separation of Money and State" with Polymerbit. She also illustrated the children’s book "Rhyming Bitcoin" and co-leads Art of Freedom with Rebel Money, a collective focused on Bitcoin art and culture.
