Antonio Batzu

Antonio Batzu creates Bitcoin art through ceramic sculpture rooted in Sardinian heritage, ancient history, and the culture of the Mediterranean. Based in Sardinia, Italy, he works primarily with clay, drawing on traditional ceramic knowledge while exploring mythology, symbolism, and periods of profound human change. His practice connects one of humanity’s oldest materials with contemporary questions surrounding Bitcoin, technology, value, and the direction of society.

A central thread in Batzu’s work is his stated intention to explore ancient prophecies surrounding technological and spiritual singularity. History and myth become active structures within his sculptures rather than distant subjects. Works from *Sea People* reference ancient Mediterranean voyagers, including Shardana warriors and the Achaeans, while *Balentes* draws from the Sardinian word *balente*, meaning a person of valor, courage, strength, and capability. His collection also includes the recurring *Ichthys* sculptures, extending the presence of ancient symbolism throughout his practice.

Material and process remain fundamental to the work. Batzu has spoken about gathering natural clay in Sardinia, experimenting with locally found materials, and learning ceramic traditions from older generations, including his grandmother. He works with majolica, glazes, copper and bronze lusters, pure gold, platinum, resin, iron, aluminum, and leather, using repeated firings and hand-applied finishes to build works with substantial physical presence. Through shaping, drying, firing, and the physical transformation of earth through heat, he creates unique sculptures that bring craftsmanship and historical memory into his exploration of Bitcoin and technological change.
