Biography

About Pascal Boyart

PBOY, the artist name of Paris-based Pascal Boyart, creates Bitcoin art across mural painting, traditional painting, and printmaking. He grew up near La Chapelle, an early center of European graffiti, and spent nearly fifteen years painting ultra-realistic frescoes across Paris. His practice combines an urban art background with classical references, figurative technique, and a longstanding interest in monumental portraiture and the expressive potential of the human face.

Bitcoin became part of that practice through both subject matter and the way his murals were funded. PBOY was the first mural painter to place a Bitcoin donation QR code directly on his work, beginning in 2017. "Liberty Leading the People 2019," inspired by Delacroix, was painted for the tenth anniversary of Bitcoin’s genesis block and incorporated a 0.28 BTC puzzle that required viewers to stand in front of the mural to solve it completely.

Other large-scale works include "The Raft of the Medusa 2019," a 6 by 8 meter reinterpretation of Géricault painted over seven days using brushwork, dripping, and a paint-filled fire extinguisher. "The Desperate Man 2019" drew from Courbet, while "Contemplations of the Red Jester" reworked Jan Matejko’s "Stańczyk." Across these works, PBOY combines classical painting references, street-art scale, traditional technique, and Bitcoin-related ideas within a distinctly figurative practice.
